September Guest Instructor
Gnenemon Solo Soro
Gnenemon Solo Soro, based in Inglewood, Los Angeles County, is a master percussionist specializing in West African drumming traditions. Born in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Solo began his musical journey at the age of three, learning the balafon—a gourd-resonated xylophone—in the Senufo tradition from his father, Soro Ibrahima, who in turn learned from his own father. By age six, Solo had taken up the djembe, and at just twelve, he was invited to join Ballet Djolem, the national dance company of Ivory Coast.
Today, Solo teaches balafon, djembe, and djunjun in the rich rhythmic traditions of Mali, Ivory Coast, and Burkina Faso, and regularly drums for West African dance classes throughout Southern California. His performances and teachings are a vibrant expression of cultural heritage, rhythm, and community.
