We’re thrilled to share that Books in the Woods youth leader Layla Salinas was recently featured in CLAIR News for her inspiring work bringing books—and local leaders—into the classroom. As part of her civics action project, Layla organized a community reading day that brought Simi Valley Mayor Dee Dee Cavanaugh back to her former elementary school to read aloud to students.
Layla’s passion for literacy has now grown into Young Voices Read, a new initiative under Books in the Woods that empowers teens to lead storytime events, literacy outreach, and creative programming for kids across the region.
👏 Congratulations, Layla! Your dedication to building a reading culture is what our mission is all about.
